Ok i'm gonna do acting classes over the summer but i'm nervous walking into a room of about 20 people?

its a class of about 20, but ive never done these kind of classes before so i'm nervous strolling in to a group of complete strangers. I need confidence but don't have any. Has anyone got any tips on what to do? or would anyone be able to suggest anything to say to people you've just met, what kind of things would you say in a conversation? please help

One useful strategy is to get attention off yourself. Ask others about their interests. Most of us like a good listener. Ask why they're taking the class, what experiences they've had in acting, etc. Ask them for advice about acting. Anything to get them talking will help you feel more relaxed. Then you'll start finding some common ground and maybe even make some new friends! Good luck.

Relax. Is this an intro class? Everyones else is in the same boat as you and is probably very nervous about the idea of getting up in front of a group of strangers and acting out your first date (or whatever).

Most intro classes start slowly and do a lot of excercises, both large group or breaking out into small groups because teachers know that the people coming into these classes ARE going to be very nervous to start and will need some help getting comfortable. You will probably do a bunch a creative game and maybe some pantomimes, copy cat exercises and silly stuff to get you to release your inhibitions.

The main thing is to go with a open mind and willingness to try new things, no matter how absurd it may seem. And HAVE FUN!!

The biggest thing it that you try not to do is be nervous!! If you become calm with your feelings, you will do good. Try to talk to them about stuff they enjoy. For example, if they love dogs, you might want to bring up something about dogs and how great they are!
