Awkward situation - what would you do? |
I went to a meeting yesterday with the president of a company to rehearse a presentation I'd made for him. I have dated a few people who got "gender checked" quite often. It never really bothered them, they weren't very "girly" anyway and knew that their look was fairly masculine. If there were ever a time when one of them seemed to be uncomfortable by the honest mistake, I would just say something like, "Oh she got here early" or whatever...something to subtly let the person know that they were mistaken. But usually, I noticed, that it is some what more embarrassing for all involved when the faux-pas is pointed out. I'm sure that she was not offended and it was totally OK that you did not say anything : ) I think that judging by the way you said she looks and dresses she probably wasn't insulted by it. Personally, I think it's cool when someone mistakes me as a guy.......it's what I'm trying to do! So, while it was awkward for you she probably had no problem with it. it was her decision not to say anything, you're fine. Next time it comes up, you could reply, "Well, I'm okay, but maybe SHE'D like to take something..." then turn to her and ask her, "Would you like to take something?"; and whatever her reply will be, just tell the president that "SHE'S already eaten, so SHE'S also okay." or "SHE'D just like to have a sandwich, since SHE just ate awhile back." |

I don't think it would be at all inappropriate for you to go and pay your respects, as long as the funeral or wake is not a private, family only, affair. I've always felt like funeral... I'm sorry you are having a difficult time right now. But just remember there are people that have it a lot worse right now. And when things seem like they are at its worst the only they can ... LOL - You are so funny... There is nothing wrong with being a loner and protecting yourself... Hell, I've been doing it most of my life!!! ...So what is your question? Is it about the friend or the girl, or both? ...I don't know. Just be there for her and let her talk if she wants to, but don't force her to talk to you if she doesn't want to. Maybe tell her mom that she is upset if you are worri... ammmmmmmmm thats a weired feel loving that way. try to talk to people at work, though you are younger then them but if you are intelligent then you will be able to makea good relation with them!... Well - my EX husband did the EXACT same thing - met up with some girl - and moved her the kids in with him - and took over my daughers room. the girl got my daughters TV and everything she got for... ok, i have had this same problem, im only 18, and my mom has done drugs ever since i can remember, finally this past summer when i turned 18 i put my foot down and told my mom she really needed hel... |
