Name of an old movie movie?

I have some problems figuring out the name of a movie I saw when I was a little kid. It was about a year in the future (2050's I think) in the USA, there was a revolution of the average people (who had a normal intelligence or IQ) and ended with the implementation of a system that involves a headphone-like machine that controlled everybody's IQ, so nobody would be more intelligent than anybody. There's a guy who's genius, so he has to go through a surgery that'd turn him into an idiot. But then he joins an organization that manages the TV system secretly, its members are genius like him, then he falls in love, meet a nice girl, looses her, and uses a tv room to broadcast his revolutionary thoughts which involves jazz and freedom, then he kills himself, and his broadcast end like a cult video for the new generation, included his son and his turned-to-idiot ex-lover.
That's the best description I can write boys, so please I'm a cinema-student who has to present this for a project

Could it be "Harrison Bergeron"? There are two film verisons.

EDIT: The TV version is the only one I've found information about. Also, it's the one that I have heard of being used in classes. I was unaware of a second film till I found it at IMDB.
