Anyone good at giving advice about Mums/Dad's and girlfriends?

i'm 20 and i've started going out with a girl i have known for a long time. I met her and we spoke everyday for more than a year until a few weeks ago when we met again and everything clicked. I know i want to be with her for good and her mum has said i can travel down to see her and stay whenever i want (shes from England, im from Scotland). I said to my Dad though and he just brushed me off and said "oh theres hardly room for one in that room". I've never been allowed to have anyone into the house. I want to move out but i'm getting an operation next month so i cant at this moment in time. My dad wont listen and i dont know what to do. I'ts like i live in a communist country. I dont have a say in anything. i was once told "this isnt your house, its mine!". What would your advice be?

If your dad is being difficult at the situation, y not invite her up and stay in a hotel together and arrange for you both to meet your dad druing the day - that way he can meet her and then next time decide whether she can stay or not

2 b fair tho, you are 20 - if you were like under 16, then I could understand why he was being like that, but at your age it seems a lil unfair to get funny about her staying - do u pay money towards the upkeep of the house??

I used to have that problem, though take on board that it is his house, and not yours.
To get over the situation, I left home at 17 and got on with my life the way I wanted to.
Now 42, my only regret is settling down with the wrong person for too many years and losing everything in a huge divorce, which is not uncommon.

You speak about your Dad...how do you get on with your mum? maybe you could have a one to one with your mum and explain exactly how you feel about...yourself,your life...your future and importantly...your family.

You need to talk this out with your parents...before decisions are made that some ....or all of you may regret.

Good luck...your parents just need some input from you..my guess is they haven't been used to giving you the opportunity.
