What is wrong with my daughter??!!?

I am new to Yahoo Answers and I'm hoping someone can assist me.

My daughter went to college an hour away from home. She lived with a friend who transfered after 2 days. Then they placed her with a very religious girl who tried to convert her.. My daughter moved out.

She was placed in a temporary dorm until this girls roommate moved in (she was moving in late) 2 weeks later my daughter moved again and had her own room. She had no friends, made no effort to make friends, cried, and came home every weekend.

At the end of her fall semester she met a girl who is now her best friend. She moved in with a girl she met for the spring semester and they became good friends as well.

During her spring semester her father passed away and her abusive boyfriend of 2 years dumped her. She attempted suicide numerous times, came after me with knives and really scared my family. We got her on medication and she is doing fine now.

Why did she act out like this?
This is NOT like her!!!

She is probably stressed and or depressed! Sounds like she has been through alot. She may have had a nervous breakdown and lost it. Sounds like she may need therapy from a professional and family. maybe family counseling. Please help her. Medication does not solve everything. Sometimes medicine has side effects that can or will make things worse. Help her asap if u love her!

i was just like your daughter ..... basically her mind could not handle everything she felt like she was alone in the world her father the man in her life left her not cos he chose to but he still did the guy abusive as he might be was not there for her and so her mind reacted to all of this the only way it could it shut down everything but her defense mechanism and her depression you did the right thing getting her on medication she will be back to normal soon

Not like her? Being with an abusive boyfriend for 2 years is a long time. She seems to have a history of depression and mental health problems. That combined with moving out, feeling alienated and losing her father, is pretty intense. I would say her suicide attempts are pretty reasonable.... She needs serious therapy and I hope you are supporting her to get some.
