What's the meaning behind the song shadowplay by joy division??

the song was written by Ian Curtis a couple of years before he took his own life and i think if you read the lyrics with that in mind you see it in a whole new light.
By the way,Ian used to sing LOOKING not WAITING in the hook when on stage.

Joy division and new order weren't really into people dissecting their songs, so they never gave any clues regarding the lyrics, in fact for a long time they didn't even add lyrics to the albums.
