Would you be mad if your Mother In Law did this?

My husband and I met his parents at a lake cabin resort this weekend. The cabin turned out to be one bedroom instead of two. The bedroom was in a loft with a half wall. My husband and I were on the pullout couch in the living room below the loft.

My in laws went to bed and I went to wash my face, brush my teeth, etc. When I came to bed, I saw that my husband was using both pillows to prop his head up. I asked for my pillow and he said, "but you brought your own pillow." I said, yes, I did, b/c I know I would want to sleep with TWO pillows.." Anyway, we want on like this, not really fighting, but quietly debating who should get the pillow (it's something we've been through before. A small issue, but I wanted to remind him of my two pillow habit."

Anyway, just as we are talking, a pillow comes flying over the half wall of the loft and lands on our bed. It was very obvious his mother had been eavesdropping again b/c we had been talking in very quiet tones.

Thing is, she never lets us talk to eachother without butting in. Even if we are in a group situation and my husband and I have to have "an aside" conversation between the two of us. MIL will star at us and watch us back and forth as if she is part of the conversation.

We don't make it a point to talk privately in front of other people, but you konw how it is when you remember to ask your spouse something and you don't have the opportunity to talk to them alone, so you lower your voices and talk. People usually give you some privacy. I think it is rude that she doesn't.

She could have handled it better. Like bring the pillow up to you and saying something like "I couldn't help but overhear" or "sorry to butt in, however I have an extra pillow if that would help". I think just throwing it up to you was kind of rude and in a way, her way of taking her son's "side".

get real....she's playing aroun probablly, she probablly thinks it's rude you are keeping her and her husband up....you weren't as quiet as you thought maybe......you show peoples parents respect.......thats what i was taught Report It

What? Where did this "I'm deaf" story come from? Also, if you are deaf, how do you KNOW you weren't being too loud and grabbing her attention in the first place? People talk when they sign. *sigh* Was this story even real? Report It

mother in laws are known to be meddling in their sons lives. at least she kept her mouth shut but yes it wouldve been better to mind her business.

She sounds a bit nosey alright.

I think she threw the pillow to shut you two up so she could get some sleep
