Track in high school?

Ok, I've got some questions about track. First of all, is it too late to start doing track in junior year of h.s? I'm fast and in shape, eat fairly well, and I will run during the summer to stay in shape. However, workouts will be a problem, especially the arm exercises. The leg exercises won't be a problem, I do those during gym class. Also, I'm not looking to be tema captain, just to stay in shape, have fun, and maybe win an event or two. My second part of the question, is how long do the meets take? Does everyone participate? What things do you need to buy for track, in addition to track shoes? Will I have to carry a sport bag with me everyday? Couldn't I just leave it in the locker room? How long is practice? Any shared experiences shared will be appreciated. Thank you!

no, a few hours, for the most part yes, yes, yes, 2 hours

Well, when I was in high school track meets were usually around three hours, but conference, sectionals, and state, are longer, besides shoes i would suggest getting some underarmor for cold meets (they happen). You won't need a bag for practices, but for meets i would get one. Practices are usually an hour and a half to two hours, depending on what you run. Depending on the track surface i would get flats and spikes for shoes, don't run in them for practice, unless you are doing blocks that day or your caoch tells you to.

ok my meets can sometimes be up to almost three hours
practices are usually 1- 1 1/2 hours
as for shoes, the lighter the better trust me! and dont go for looks... go for COMFORT
everyone participates in at least 2 events in my town
i dont think you need a bag. and as long as its not too big and ur not afraid it will be stolen, keep it in the locker room.

Depends on your team and league.

The following is for what I have done while doing track.
Everyone needs to participate in the meet doing an event unless you're injured or else you get kicked off the team.
Everyone is supposed to stay for the entire meet which can take up to 4 hours or more.

You should get either a pair of racing flats (for longer distance) or spikes (for sprint/mid/field). You should also get some comfortable running wear or something you feel good doing physical activity in.

You don't necessarily need a sport bag everyday, if you have a locker you can just store it in there. It depends
