Moving Across Country On A Whim?

So I live in the Chicago land area, and have a decent job working as an EMT in a hospital emergency room. I'm good at what I do and have enough experience to transfer around if I wanted, over the past few years I've gotten back into art and figured out that I want to make a career in commercial art, which I'm working very hard towards but I feel like where I'm at and the people around me do not aide me in my ventures nor do I meet many people that share in my passions, when I used to live out west man the scene was breaking at the seems, and I love the culture out west, so Ive been thinking about just packing up and moving to California, you might say on a whim, so honestly I'm just lookin for any advice on this potential life change, thank you very much anyone who can give me some advice.

This is a very brave step toward your new life experience and giving yourself an opportunity to better moments and expressing your skills.
Everyone can make the change so you can do it.
Don't waste your time looking for the people to support or share your passion, maybe you're on the wrong place with wrong people.
Life is upfront you and give more opportunities, but you must be the person who will be determined and accepted the challenge.
Even if you are alone or with your family.
Just go for and do it.

If I were younger I would do it! I have 2 sons that live there. They live in between San Francisco and Sacramento. It is expensive but it is soooooooooooo cool. My kids and their families love it there. They have the best of all worlds. They have the beach to the west, mountains to the north and east, desert to the south. They are an hour from skiing in the winter, and hour to the ocean, an hour from the wine country. If it is just you... by golly do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The weather is fabulous! The food is wonderful. The fruit, the wine, the scenery................ everything!
