when meeting the kid you are going to babysit ( a 3 or 4 or 5 year old).....how do u make it not awkward lol? like besides..hi my name is ...whats yours? what do u like to do? can you show me your room? show me your absolute favorite toy? Kids love to color I would let that be the ice breaker. Make conversation while you're coloring like is blue your favorite color too? My son takes a little while to open up to someone he doesn't know but if he's comfortable (and coloring usually makes him) he opens up real quick. Take control from the onset, decide its going to be a good experience then enjoy it !! always act interested in what they are saying, even if its a really boring story. my son is 5, he likes it when the babysitter does stuff with him that i dont like to do. like playdo, he doesnt get to do that often because i dont really like it much. or fingerpaints. messy fun stuff thats simple to clean up. but for the moms sake do it on the kitchen floor so none gets on carpet. kids like to go outside to if you get the chance, maybe go to the library and let them pick out books for you to read to them. make fun snacks and let them help you, my son loves to help in the kitchen but doesnt always get to because im always in a hurry. when you first meet them, just the basics works( the things you mentioned) its after the parents leave is the most important time with the child, make it fun or most of the time they will not like you. |
