For those of you who got inside the NHL (work for teams, etc.), how did it happen?

- becoming an NHL employee (scout, broadcaster, etc.)
- working for teams (from the locker room to concessions)
- meeting teams on a regular basis (VIP passes, etc.)
- and other like stuff

How did you get "inside" the NHL? Family connections? Being neighbors with an NHL'er? Was it just your chosen profession?

I started on an intership back in 1996 during my second year of college. I worked my way up through the ranks and befriended many players. Mike Bossy and Patrick Flatley are two. I am a New York Islanders scout.
