Is it ok to put 1/4" Luan over a 3/4" subfloor and then install a hardwood floor over that? |
We are trying to bring the kitchen floor up 1/4" to meet the adjoining room but aren't sure if it's ok? Also, would we need to put rosin paper between the 3/4" & 1/4" subfloors? I would use 1/4 plywood instead of luan. pl or liquid nail to the old subfloor and nail/screw. use 2 inch staples for the flooring and you should go into the 3/4 subfloor beneath. If that is the measurement you need to be even with the adjoining room you should put the rosin between the 1/4" and hardwood. You are doing fine it will work OK, but the hardwood floor wont stand up to water damage its going to buckle if water gets under it. Your sub floor is thick enough I would think about ceramic tile I wouldn't put the 1/4" luan on the floor. Put 15 lb. felt on the floor, then put the wood on top of that. Or use rosin paper. If you use the 1/4" your nails won't be long enough. |
