Internet flirtations are wrecking Marriages like an epidemic (Opinions)?

I am going through hell because of an internet flirtation that went tragically wrong.
It started out more or les innocent and then turned into a train wreck.

Broken marriages, destroyed families..all based on secret E-mails and IMs and Voice Chat.
As I read this forum I see that other people are getting trashed by things that happen on the Web.
Secret meetings with people who were met in a game forum seem to be a serious cause of marital infidelities.
Is this the end of the sanctitity of marriage?
Are we dooming the Husband and Wife relationship by making it so easy to secretly flirt?

What do you feel is the reason that the flirting becomes serious?
Do Husbands and Wives go looking or does it just happen without any real desire to get involved with someone on the Web?
Also:
You don't have to give details, just a Yes or No...but has your marriage or relationship been hurt by something that happened or is happening in chat rooms, IMs or forums?

Picking the best answer was almost impossible.
I wanted to give everyone who responded something.
I settled on the one that reinforced my own opinion in the best way.
I hope that was fair...it's seems selfish.
I am sorry.

yes , I lost my marriage of 21 years to my wife being in chat rooms and talking to men, she enentually left me for one a year ago. She had been chatting for 8 years and it was always a conflict for our marriage. Up until we got the internet we had a great marriage and I still even thought we still had a good marriage right up till she left. She had been having an affair for the past 6 minths and just walked away from our marriage. It devestated me. I had been faithul to her for over 24 year and treated her like a queen. Once internet came it seemed like I didn't matter anymore . I wish I had never bought the dang computer.

Only a small percent of relationships go south because of online relationships on the net, so your title is wrong to begin with.

I know of a few females that have let relationships on the web go to the extreme, eventually with the female leaving husband & children for some guy they never met only to discover that everything he told them was a lie, and one of the guys was living with his mother - who was supporting him, lol

On the other hand, I know of a few couples that met online and get along fantastic so it can go either way.

I think if you are a mature adult that is somewhat happily married you should be smart enough not to LET that kind of thing happen.
I flirt, I have male friends that I email, but I would NEVER cross the line, it's not worth it!
I steer clear of chat rooms, that's just asking for trouble.

No because when I saw things starting to go towards the South (from the other person), I had enough respect for my husband to close that account so that the other person could not find me.

She should have a good reason. She should ask permission. If it is a good reason - or an arguably good reason - the manager will appreciate the initiative. Use your common sense.
