Japan's plan to spend an extra $1.4 billion on hospital doctors won't alleviate the shortage of staff causing treatment delays and fatalities, doctors said.

The 150 billion yen package will help hospital emergency rooms meet increased demand for medical and surgical services, the health ministry said in a report on Jan. 30.

Trauma doctor Hisashi Matsumoto said he gets $6 an hour, or less than the average minimum wage, for a 16-hour night shift. The low pay and long shifts have left hospitals short-staffed nationwide, resulting in a case in August when a woman with labor complications lost her baby after she was refused treatment at 10 hospitals that said no doctors were available.

In 2006, 667 women in labor were turned away by more than three hospitals because of a lack of doctors, government records show.

Yes. People are dying for lack of coverage. I'm tired of hearing people like you bragging that you've got yours, to heck with everyone else, and you don't care if a bunch of sick, poor people die.

That kind of health care system isn't what's being proposed this election anyway. People who have insurance will still have it, but they won't be able to deny people, and it will be affordable for the poor.

The problem in Japan, has very little to do with health care system. Japan is incapable of facing the competition from the other Asian markets, who are competing ferociously against each other. I can't believe that a doctor makes $6 and hour, when a supervisor who works in Mc D's (Tokio)makes about 800 euros, please get your facts straight.
The Japanese model would never work in the US, just like any other universal care model from Europe.
She is proposing a model based on Universal care for everybody, but adapted to US needs. No, system is perfect.
But, when I see that senior citizens in Europe enjoy an excellent care that start at the level of the city government, where the community government provides from nursing assistance to hospital beds into your home a t a minimal expense for the contributor, then I think how many of my fellow senior citizens back at home can't not even afford decent care and assistance??? So, is this what you want for your future...then have it...
But do not try to blind the rest...there are many, many things that have happened back at home since 911, that you guys have not even heard about because of the censorship you've been living on since 911.
The economy is not growing, the number of unemployeed is sky rocketing..there are states that are already on recession...

You will need Universal health care assistance in the future....
