Why do I attract narcissictic friends?

I seem to have the same kind of friend: attractive, a lot of confidence, thinks they are the prettiest girl in the room, but they always tend to be on the conceited side. Meanwhile, I am the shy, cute girl that is modest , "nice" and level-headed.
It must be me, I know this because I tend to have this pattern of meeting people like this. But my questions is why do I keep doing this and how can I stop meeting people like this? What am I missing here? Any insight is much appreciated.

I think alot of it is what you are naturally attracted to regardless of friends or not.. you look for the same qualities and the same pattern happens.. change different things..try to ask different questions.. seek different kinds of people around you .. go to different surroundings and that may help..as far as the other girl.. I would talk to her .. if she has a problem.. then she wasn't a friend to begin with.. it's ok to think you look good because you take good care of yourself.. it's another thing to put it in other people's faces..that is not nice.. talk to her and walk away if needed
