Is this illegal for my landlord no to forward mail to me? |
I just moved out of my old condo on June 1st of this year. Sense then my landlord and I have had disagreements. My sister called me the other day and asked if I got the package she sent me. Come to find out she sent it to my old address. I called fed-ex to see if it had already been dropped off and they said it was left at the door. I called my landlord and left a message a few days ago asking her if I could come get the box and she has not returned my call. If she doesn't call me and keeps the box is that illegal. I would assume that's tampering with someones mail. Just so everyone knows YES! I did do a forward address before I moved. It is your responsibility to inform the mail service of your change of address. There is a redirection service available for a small charge. You should keep this service running until you have informed all your contacts of your new address. It would be illegal for the landlord to keep the box. Unfortunately, there's probably nothing that you could do about it because it would be difficult to prove the landlord had the box. I'm not completely positive, but I would consider that as messing with someone else's mail which is a charge of a fine. She should have sent you your mail. Considering the fact that ya'll had several disagreements makes me think that she is purposely not sending it as well. You might want to consider doing something about that. sorry but whenever i move i always sort it with post office to forward all my mail to new address ...real estates and landlords are under no obligation to forward it to you ,legally they cant open it though yeah and i believe its a federal offense Did you put a forward on your address? All you have to do is fill out a form from the post office. If you didn't take care of that, it's really not your landord's fault. well yeah it is, It was sent via Fed Ex - that doesn't fall under the same laws as the US Mail. Go over to the landlords door and ask for the package. It is illegal to keep or destroy someone mail !! But I don't know what you have to do in that case.. Its not her job to be a mailman. Its your job to go get it. Yep! Yes this should be considered illegal and if it were me i would contact the authorities about this matter, it is illegal to tamper with any ones mail, but are you sure they didn't just throw it out and if so if you have proof of them having this mail, you should contact authorities and let this landlord know that he is not authorized to tamper with your mail its a felony to do so I believe, contact fed-ex again and they should be able to tell you what you can do to make out a report on this package ok, hope this is of some help to you No on multiple counts. |
