Should I reply back at an employer's response to my Thank-you letter? |
I recently applied for a job and was given a chance to be interviewed. A few days after the interview, I sent a thank-you letter via email to my interviewer. He replied a few days after -- should I reply to that? I wouldn't reply just yet. He is letting you know that he is still reviewing his options, and that he has been on the road and unable to make a decision. If you don't hear anything in a week, then maybe check again. You basically have what looks like a job offer and a the avenue of communication is open. I wouldn't reply. You don't want to come off as desperate. It is a good sign that he wrote back, but I think you should hold off till you get the job. I think I'd write back a short email saying something like "Great! Thanks!" replying would make you sound kinda desperate. I wouldn't. It has to end somewhere. I agree with Rebecca W. Just acknowledge you got the message. And wait on it................ at least a week..... You have already thanked him for the interview. His answer leaves me to wonder. I could be wrong and hope that I am so you will get the job if it is meant to be; but I just don't feel the he has a final plan !!!!!!!!!!!!! If I did answer it I would only state that I look forward to hearing from him (reference the job) and let it go at that. You can wait to hear from him, but I would still be looking for a job and having interviews. There is no telling how long it will take him to come up with that "Final Plan." I wouldn't push it as you already sent a "Thank You" letter. This person is basically telling you that they are gone and haven't decided. I wouldn't push it. If you don't hear back from this person, then touch bases by phone if you can just to let them know whether you are still interested so they don't forget you. This boss has your pertinent information and it is unusual but nice to send a "Thank You" card. Based on the email you received, this person is unsure or maybe trying to let you down easily. I wouldn't put "all my eggs in one basket", I'd be actively applying to other places. If they want you and have your phone number and address and the email, they will contact you. Good luck though , as it sounds like you really want this job, but don't hold out for it. Hope you get it though! |
