Is there anyway to get my deceased stepdad's mail.?

We have cluster boxes at the end of our road. We used to have a dirt road. The P.O. did not deliver any mail to anybody's mailboxes, and rarely forwarded to P.O. Boxes because they didn't want to drive on our road. We got our road paved. Instead of delivering, they put up cluster boxes at the end of our road. My stepdad (not legallly related) died last October in a car accident. I tried and am still in process of acquiring his house. In the accident, two of the three mail keys for our cluster boxes were lost. During this time, my mom left and went to Citrus Springs. She had the other key. She lost hers.We needed our mail to pay some of the bills. The post office would't give us his mail, and said they would only give it to the heir to the estate. There wasn't one because his family didn't pick one. Wouldn't let us change the box w/o title to the property. After plenty of yelling they gave us a new box and our mail, not his. Still not getting his. We cna't keep up with unknown bills.

Are you expecting to cash his social security checks?

I ask this because your MOTHER is beneficiary of the estate, and she can get the key from the post office. Should be no trouble for her at all. Did you ask her nicely?

The executor of the estate can take a copy of the death certificate to the post office, fill in a form, and get access to the mail.

It's a federal offense for anyone other than the executor to access that mail.

Since there was no will, the estate must be decided by probate. The Probate Court will decide who should have access to the mail. You need a Probate Attorney to help you with this.

You will most likely have to go to probate court and have them determine who an executor is/can be. If your mother is married to your stepfather, then it would make sense that she would be the executor of his estate, but if there was no will, I could see where that would be a problem. Until you get it all straightened out, I would notify his bill collectors and make them aware of the situation until you get it sorted out. Good luck!
