Change of address IRS?

I just realized that my rebate check may be mailed instead of being direct deposited since I had my turbo tax payment taken out of my check. I have since moved. My SS# ends in 88. If I mail the IRS change of address form now what will happen to my check? Will it be better to wait and have it mailed to my old address? Will it be forwarded or returned to the IRS? Will it take longer to get my check if I file the change of address now?

File Form 8822 with the IRS to update your mailing address. Also, but in a Change of Address notification with the Post Office to have your mail forwarded. The Post Office will forward the rebate checks, contrary to widely held misconceptions. The only mail that isn't forwarded is mail that is marked "Do Not Forward," and the IRS doesn't mark tax refund or rebate checks with that endorsement.

Call IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to change your address or visit your local IRS office. You can also complete Form 8822 and mail it in or drop it off at the local IRS office.
IRS (or any government mail) is not forwarded it is returned back to IRS.

You need to contact the IRS. I would send in the form AND give them a call.

They will NOT forward it to your new address. It will be returned to sender as undeliverable even with a change of address at the post office. It is one of those things they arent allowed to forward.

Give a change of address notice to the post office and your check and all your other mail will be forwarded. When you file your 2008 tax return, your address will be updated automatically.
