How do I get in touch with the IRS for a W-2 from an ex-employer for a previous year? |
I moved at the end of 2006 and didn't forward my mail. When tax season came along I didn't receive one of my W-2's. I went a year without filing and now that employer will not give me the tax info without going to a third party (getmyw2.com) who is trying to charge me a fee. I don't have a credit card, so I can't pay online. I don't have any checks, so I can't send it in. Is there a free way to get my w-2 for 2006? Yes. If your employer filed the W-2 with SSA as required by law, SSA sent a transcript of that W-2 to IRS last July. You can request that transcript by filing Form 4506-T and select option 8. The IRS website SEEMS to say that you can also order the transcript by calling 800-829-1040, but I could be wrong. Check out the link below. |
