Do I have to disclose the names of anyone living in my apartment to someone?

Background: I live in Florida, and I rent my apartment.

My girlfriend is planning on moving in with me. She claims that I am required by law to inform my landlord (the apartment company) of her name, even though I am now and will continue to be the sole financially responsible party living in my apartment.

My argument is, "What the hell business of theirs is it who lives here so long as they know who to get their money from?"

Her argument is "It's the law."

Aside from the Post Office/banks/etc to tell them to forward her mail here, who should we have to tell?

You will find no statute on the Florida books for this one

What you need to do is to read your lease very carefully, for there is a very good chance the landlord will care if extra people are living in the unit, and maybe a lease violation which could lead to an eviction

but read the lease, if silent, then you are ok, if it addresses this issue then you will have to follow the lease provision

you could be violating the lease by having another adult living there who is NOT listed on the lease - that's standard practice pretty much anywhere. You will probably need to add her to the lease

Common courtesy is to tell the landlord...they need accurate records for whom is living in the rental property regardless if its in your contract..witch it probably is...she is right buddy!

From my experience as a landlord, it only leads to rent increases because more people equals faster wear and tear.

Usually, most landlords especially if they don't reside within the building don't know about it and won't. Some ignore it and so on.

In the end, if you have an obligation written on your lease, then you have no choice.

If you are the only tenant and occupant listed on the lease, then only you can live there. The landlord has the right to know who is living in his property.
