Cousin Cindy is a major Mooch!?

Ok... so, my mom has a cousin named Cindy who moved out here to Maine from California...
We thought she would be over here for a few weeks to get her head leveled again, (her mom had just died, her son was going over seas, she was in the middle of a divorce with her husband).
Anyway, 2 weeks turned into 3, and 4, then months! So now Cindy has been in Maine for 2 years.
During the whole time she was here (I live with my mom and 3 siblings), she never helped us financially, not that we couldn't afford to have her around, but we'd rather pay for a REAL charity case... well, we were all right with that because we thought that she had no money (more on that later), so we (my mom and I) urged Cindy to get a job.
We even let her drive one of our cars whenever, especially to her work which was a half hour away... but even with her job, she was managing to pay us a meak 25 dollars a week.
Well, finally we gave her the boot, she was just becoming unbelievable...
She ended up renting an apartment that went into foreclosure leaving her without a place to be. she has had a hip surgery recently, and she is playing that for all of the pity she can get.

Cindy now is staying with a woman from our church (who can't financially, emotionally, or physically afford Cindy since her husband has just walked out on her)(physically because Linda fell not too far back and broke a few of her ribs), and beforethat she was staying with another ederly Jewish couple who did it out of mitzvah.

When Cindy became homeless, she forwarded all of her mail and phone calls to our house because she knew that we would (reluctantly) take them. And in her mail, we have found out (without opening anything), that she has online stocks.
We also found out that my moms brother (who she stayed with in California for a while) gave her about $7k, and that her brother has given her about $15k. So, while Cindy is living in Maine, my uncle Brad is back in california, paying for cindy's stuff in storage that she has refused to take out...
When my mom asked cindy why she has all of this money but can only pay 25 dollars a week, cindy said "I like being comfortable".
We did many things with Cindy, trips to coastal towns, restaurants, even Canada, but she hasn't once thanked us or anybody who has helped her.
So, she is probably going to end up staying with half of the people in our church (which she hasn't been to for the 8 months that we kicked her out), and she is going to drain their pockets, and give her self a bad name.
Cindy is a grown woman (she's 59 years old), and she needs to realize that what she is doing is unfair to people.
How can we make her realize that she should go back to california and live with her daughter?

I have a first cousin who used to stay at my mom's place a lot, and because her parents helped my mother financially through a lot of tough times and even partly payed for her house, she always acted like we owed them and the kid something.

She completely used us and the house, she stayed with us for up to months at a time while her parents worked overseas, she borrowed money, never paid it back, stayed out late every night, slept through the day.

Never lifted a finger, never cleaned anything, she even had the nerve to ask if she could live in my room and that I sleep on the couch while she was here.

Eventually I told her if she didn't get the fk out of our house I was going to tell her parents about her using drugs (which she did on a regular basis when she went out with friends), so finally she left for good and never came back.
In fact we've kind of broken off relations with her family and haven't seen them in years, which I think is for the best anyway.

wow! it's people like that who ruin it for those in real need...the other two answers have good points...so I just want to add one more. It has to do with the fact she's going thru your acquaintances at church....... she sound like she's going to go thru one by one till she soaks them all and hopefully they will not be resentful to you...can you go to the parish priest and give him a heads up that she's wealthy yet making his poor even poorer and ask him what direction you should take in this.
I feel for you all but you did a good deed whether it turned out badly in the end or not she's the one who's got alot of answering to do, hopefuly you can stop her before she does more harm.

If cindy is out of your house now, I certainly wouldn't worry about her. Don't make her worries or other people's concerns about her, your problem. If someone takes her in, it is their choice and their problem. If she comes back and wants to move back w/you, you need to tell her no. Sounds like Cindy needs to grow up. How does that song go? Run along home Cindy, Cindy, run along home......not sure who it is by but it sure fits doesn't it?
