Why didn't he ever tell me how he felt and why would he leave me this note after he is gone?

He was in high school with me, and to me it seemed that our relationship was nothing more than another high school crush. After high school, I moved on with my life and went to college. He stayed back in the small town where we had grown-up. I got a letter in my mail this week, and it was from him. He passed away with a medical condition, and he knew that this was imminent. In this letter, he describes how much he loves me and how he could never move on in his life after I left. He even talks about how much the time we shared had meant to him.
I had forgotten everything about those days, but now I can remember every detail. I realize now that I was a fool for leaving him, and that I too am in love with him. I never met anyone who I felt that deeply for, and even today, I am single.
How do I deal with this and move forwards, because all I want to do is return to him but he is too far away from me?

Goodness me that is emotional blackmail if I have ever heard of one. It is just sad that it is being dealt to you by somebody that is now dead. You are only feeling like this because it is out of your control and you can't do anything about it. Think about it - if he was still alive and sent you that note what would you have done about then. I don't understand why you are feeling guilty about it - please let it go or you will be one very sad lady with one very sad life.

Just remember how he said how his time with you made him feel. Even though you never got to be together again, the time he spent with you was a happy time for him and a memory that comforted him obviously before he died. He seemed to have loved you very much and if he really did, think of what he would want for you. I think he would want for you to be happy too. Leave your heart and mind open for some great guy to come along and make you as happy as he said you made him. I think he would smile down from where he is now to see you happy with someone.

My one question I have, is was he aware of this medical condition for a long time? If so, he probably thought he was being the loving of the two options, by hideing his feelings, and hopeing you'd move on to find a life you could have lasting longer than he knew his would. If this is the case, he did love you so very much Lolita, take heart in that. You two had a bond that went deeper than mere surface. Cherish that. He undoubtedly cherished that and it got him through some very tough days, just the thought of you...now let the very thoughts of him help you get through this most difficult time for you...take time to greive at your loss...it seems to be a great loss indeed to you. For that I am so sorry. Your situation is truly sorrowful...and I wish you some peace and transquility. Please take care...and always remember your love, in that way you keep him alive in you...
