How long to forward mail?

I changed my address with the post office over a week ago and I am still having to drive to my old address and pick up mail. (45 mins away!) How long does this normaly take before it starts working???

You should call your old post office and talk to your former Letter Carrier. Ask the Letter Carrier to put your mail on hold until the forwarding order goes through, then you won't have to drive back to your old residence. We tell customers the average for you to start seeing mail at your new address is two weeks, but that's almost a worst case scenario. If you know your Letter Carrier has sent in your 3575 to be processed then sit back and wait for the yellow stickers to beginning to flow. Most importantly, start calling and writing all your correspondents NOW and give them your new address. The forwarding system is nice, but its not a substitute for you telling folks you've moved.

It is usually right away. I've changed my address every year for a few years and never had an issue. Go to usps.com and change it online (costs $1). That's how I did it. Not sure if it takes longer when doing it in person.

It should only take about a week. Give or take a few days. Maybe to be on the safe side go to the post office and do it again. You can also do it online too.
