Mail Fraud.?

I SIGN UP FOR SECRET SHOPPER ON THE INTERNET. MONTHS LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER AND CHECK IN THE MAIL. THE CHECK WAS FOR 2,490.00. THE LETTER HAD SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS, BASICALLY I ENDED UP SUBMITTING THE CHECK IN MY ACCOUNT. ONE TASK ASK THAT I SEND 2,100 MONEY GRAM TO SOMEONE IN NJ. ALSO SPEND 50.00 AT WALMART AND JC PENNY. I DID ALL THESE THINGS LEAVING ME WITH 200.00 AS MY FEE. COME TO FIND OUT THE CHECK WAS RETURNED AND I WAS OUT OF 2,490.00. I TRIED TO CALL THE PERSON THAT I WAS DEALING WITH ON THIS AND THE NUMBER IS NOT ACCEPTING CALLS. I FEEL SO STUPID AND FOOLISH FOR NOT THINKING. I WANT TO MOVE FORWARD WITH INVESTIGATING THESE PEOPLE SO NO BODY ELSE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE CLEANERS. I KNOW HOW STUPID I AM SO I DON'T NEED TO HEAR IT FROM ANYONE ELSE. I JUST NEED SOME GOOD ADVISE ON WHAT TO DO NOW OTHER THAN TO ACCEPT MY LOSSES. I DIDN'T MEAN TO USE ALL CAPS BUT I AM YELLING AT MYSELF FOR NOT BEING MORE CAREFUL.

I think that all caps is appropriate under the circumstances.

I recommend that you report this to your local District Attorney's anti fraud Unit and also to your State Attorney General.

In addition since these creeps are probably operating across State lines I would report it to the FBI as well.

You may catch these creeps. Although they probably have already spent the money, it will probably give you a great deal of satisfaction to catch these creeps, prodecute them and send them to prison.

I had a similar problem a little over 20 years ago. An Attorney embezzled $2,500 from me.

I reported the Attorney who embezzled the money from me to the local District Attorney, the State Attorney General and the State Bar Association.

The Attorney had spent my money, so I never got my money back, however I did get the Attorney prosecuted, convicted, sent to prison and disbarred.

Looking back on it to get that Attorney convicted, sent to prison and disbarred, that was the best $2,500 that I ever spent, because I got an Attorney who could have done a great deal of damage if he had continued in practice, sent to prison and disbarred.

If you catch these creeps you can get them convicted and sent to prison.

That will protect other people from these creeps.

Twenty years from now you will be able to look back on that with the satisfaction that you protected many other people from these creeps by putting them in prison.

Sorry, but apart from reporting it to the cops there's nothing you can do.

There's a good reason that these scammers ask you to use moneygram or Western Union to send back the money - it's impossible to trace who picked it up.

You are not the first this happens to. People have to learn that there is not such thing as free money. If it sounds too good to be true it is. Let this be a lesson to you.

You got scammed. Since you gave them a money order, you're out your cash. Best thing you can do is sent the details to the police and hope they catch the person. The odds of you getting your money back are slim.

In the future, you must protect yourself better. A legitimate business like this should deal with credit card or bank transfer only. Also, you should never have to send cash to get some back. This is the sign of a scam.

i am sorry this happened to you but i read somewhere that if any fraud involves the mail you can contact the postmaster general. I know that's not much help but maybe it's a start.
