Looking at average gates and fan bases is it true that only Celtic/Rangers= Premiership quality and the rest..

Positions 3rd-6th-English Championship at best.
Positions 7th-11th-Leagues One and Two at best.
Position 12-Conference at best.
This is not slagging off SPL football-I am a Celtic fan living in England and realise that Old Firm teams punch way above their respective weights considering the paltry amount of TV money on offer up there.Surely if there is room for 92 league clubs in England(with 10 times the population of Scotland!)-then it is a logical assumption there is only room for a maximum of 10 league clubs(or even 9-if you do the arithmetic)to function in Scotland-otherwise I reckon Scottish football will die in the next 10 years.

A bit harsh on the bottom 6.

Hearts are at least championship quality and Gretna would be League 2 with the others League 1.

Give rangers and celtic the money the premiership teams get and you would have the 2 biggest clubs in the world my friend, challenging for the title and champions league every year. And unlike the top four in england, old firm fans are real old firms, unlike man utd who only have so many fans in the far east because a certain over rated twat called beckham. That is not real fans of a club.

Don't talk pish. Professional football in Scotland has been played for 150 years so what indications are there that it will die in 10 years? And why do people always compare Scottish teams to English teams?? I agree there's too many teams in Scotland and yeah within 10 years another few lower league clubs will disappear, doesn't mean Scottish football as a whole will die though.

ahem firstly no scottish football will never die and they havnt punched above their weight i think if one of the top four prem clubs had been in the UEFA final then they would have won it

Scottish Football has the most ardent support. Per capita, more Scots watch Scottish Football than MOST countries combined. You are comparing a five million country with a fifty million country ... your math is found wanting.

I agree with agent , just ask Leeds United, that's an example of what can go wrong, regardless of fan base or stature.

i blame the french

do u really rate them prem teams or are u just having a laugh.?

This is an argument that will never have a true answer as it will never happen.

As to gates/ success, not even the Open University "Tefal heads" of the 70s couldn't balance a formula like that.

Success in the EPL has been, in the main, bought, and were it not for the SKY money, then there would not have been such dominance by Man U, Arsenal & more recently Chelsea. As has been pointed out Blackburn bought their title, even though chance played its cards as well.

As a Celtic fan living in Scotland, albeit the gulf has not lessened, the quality has indeed improved on the whole, and Scottish football is in rude health.

With the lack of transfer war chests, more and more our youth are getting opportunities, that previously had been denied them. This can only bode well for the future.

I do agree on the number of teams playing in Scotland, and I think if that all the books were opened, there would be few teams that would really be able to survive without sugar daddies taking them on.

Previously on this forum, I have advocated for such a thing, the combining of clubs, selling off one stadium and upgrading the other.

You forgot one issue, why are there three governing bodies for such a small country. If anything their cronyism is more likely to be the death knell of the Scottish game than anything else.

Streamline this structure to one unit, and utilise the funds to provide for a refereeing college.

There is so much more, but in answer to your Q:

1) Scottish game in good health.
2) Governing bodies are draining the game.
3) Bad referees are making our game a laughing stock.
4) Order the books to be opened and lets get our clubs back to profitability. Even if it on a groundshare basis.

You think it will die. You really dont have a clue do you.
Yes, the whole world is stuck the the English premiership (Sarcastic by the way), and like you said the old firm do punch above their weight, or are they just too under rated by everyone?
I think both teams in Europe proved they can be a match for anyone, and in recent years and the past have proved this, and the likes of Aberdeen done pretty well considering who they were playing in the eufa cup. What is with this, "how our teams would do in England"? Who cares, because I for one don't. You can't judge a book by its cover.

gates and fan bases are not an indication of quality....
Popularity yes, quality, no.
I will get pelters here, but Rangers and Celtic would do better in the English first division, were such an option open to them.
You do strong teams like Motherwell and Dundee united an absolute disservice by making the gate and fan base the criteria of quality. Both teams regularly have a good go at the Old firm. it took two attempts for Rangers to beat both St. Johnstone and Partick Thislte in the Scottish Cup. Both Celtic and Rangers have their own bruises from Inverness Caley.

Don't forget that the last Scottish team to beat Europe was Aberdeen. 25 years ago this year.

The smaller clubs feed the bigger clubs players, look at Kilmarnock, Boyd Naismith... look at hibs, feeding the old firm...

It would benefit both Celtic and Rangers if they weren't the only competition for each other. It might also wake up the more odious elements that both fans have.

Anybody outwith Glasgow supporting either Celtic or Rangers wants to give themselves a shake.
