How to record conference Audio/Video for cd distribution and downloading from website?

I have a JVC Hdd Camcorder and the conference room has sound system (32 chn mixer etc)

It's JVC Hard disk Camcorder Model GZ-MG70AG. Mixer is 32 chn Allen & Heath GL2800. hope this helps

I would suggest taking a record out from the mixer (most have them in the form of RCA outs) and hooking them directly to the camera.. It sure would be a lot easier to answer if you could tell us what model camera and mixer.. lots of apples and oranges out there

THANKS FOR THE UPDATE

while the Allen heath does have 1/4" record outs that would be perfect for capturing the sound, your camera model has no inputs.. there's a cheesy way around it.. get an inexpensive headphone amp, 2 1/4" TRS balanced audio cables, and a pair of headphones... take the record outs from the 2800 console, feed them to the headphone amp. hook headphones out from the headphone amp and place on top of camera so the earpieces are hanging under the camera.. the mic is just under the lens and the headphone drivers would make a much clearer audio feed than doing nothing... hope that helps!

I was unable to find specs on the JVC, but I tend to doubt it as AV in or Mic in but instead uses a built in mic.

In any event the mixer uses professional output levels which are 200% hotter than home audio equipment (+3dbV at 1.3V instead of -3dbm at 0.775v) and they also use 1/4 (possibly ring tip) and XLR. The 1/4" could be home stereo level, but I tend to doubt it as they are designed to interface with monitor amps.

The best thing to do and you need to test this, is to put a loud speaker from the mixer somewhat close to the camera, say 2 feet or 3 feet and feed a voice level amplified signal so the mic can pick it up.

The mic has automatic level of gain control so when the person stops talking the mic is going to increase the volume and pick up the audice, then when the person speaks again the volume will drop.

This is the speaker phone syndrome.

So test it.

Using the built in mic at a distance from the podium is going to pick up room tone, room noise, people whispering, coughing and the boys gymansium reverberations of the walls UNLESS your room is very dead (curtains all way around, carpeted floors, acoustic celling).

If the camera is going to be within 6-10 feet of the speaker, then just use the mic (test this also) as these mics work well in the 6-12' range.

You know you are also going to have problems converting the image to most editing software (MOD files which are MP2), but if you've done this and have edited before then you can fix the speaking up in post production using common software. If you have access to software with a EQ you can pull down the room tone and add more bass to the voice. You can also mute out the areas between talk.

Add a room tone track to fill in the gaps.
