I am going to Napa for a Conference...?

I am going to Napa for a conference in March. I have been tasting there several times but wanted to get some more imput on good wineries with nice tasting rooms. Any suggestions?

Rombauer, Prager Winery & Port Works, Charles Krug, Cakebread Cellars, Silver Oak Cellars, Domaine Chandon, Domaine Carneros, Copia, Mumm Napa Valley. Also while you are here, try and get to CIA @ Greystone, Bistro Jeanty, Cuvee, Celadon, Angele, Cole's Chop House, and or Bistro Don Giovanni's for some good eats.

Bamma say he have surprise for you. Bamma know something you never have. Bamma say there a restaraunt. Bamma say serve "mafati" Bamma not sure he spell right. Bamma say pronounce. ma and pa. fa ther, tee. mafati. Bamma say ask around. Bamma say nothing like it in world. Bamma say secret recipe. Bamma eat there long ago. Bamma say back when he know Johnny Miller. Bamma say head pro. Bamma also like Chimney Rock. Bamma say no drink n drive cart. Bamma otta know.

So where have you already been for tastings? I can give you tons of ideas. Are you staying Upvalley or in Napa proper? The downtown area of Napa has incorporated several tasting rooms where you can sample many different wines from different wineries in the same place. (Skip Copia, it sucks) The visitor's center downtown has a card you can get for $20 which gets you in to any of the tasting rooms in the downtown area for free tastes. (OK, they say they want ten cents, but they always waive it.) Have you been up to Sterling? The tram ride and views are incredible. $10 for the tram and admission.

Email me, I can tell you more!

I'm so jealous!!!!!!!

Naturally, the larger wineries have the better tasting rooms. However, I prefer the tiny wineries. They have a lot of personality.

My particular favorite is Kaz winery. I know, I had never heard of it either. It's somewhere near E&G. We walked in and I had on my USC T-shirt. Kaz was sitting there in his flip flops and a USC T-shirt. He told me about his wines and what went with them (the birth of his first grandchild, etc.), I bought his favorite (which was absolutely delicious) chardonnay and he signed it USC - 9000 UCLA - 0.

Have fun!

Mumm Napa & Domaine Carneros do great sparkling wine tours. Mumm usually has photography exhibits on display.

If you go for just tours, not wine, I would recommend Beringer & Robert Mondavi. I personally do not care for the wines at both wineries as I am not a fan of very dry cabernet, but the tours at both places and the wineries themselves are wonderful.

Silverado and Luna are great for their wine. Luna is very small just off silverado trail in Napa. Silverado is further up the trail. Great Sangiovese at both places.

On a side note, if you have time for lunch or dinner and don't mind the drive up to St. Helena, go to Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen.

Cross the Mayacamas ridge and do your tastings in Sonoma. Napa is overhyped and has been for decades. And the growing trend of California winemakers to produce high-alcohol "bombs" (as the wine critic Eric Azinov and some others call them) is going to be very harmful to the industry.

Domain Chandon - If you like Champagne. They have all types of the California buubly there. Good Site.

What type of wine do you like?

I recommend going ot Mondavi for their tour (which I find to be very interesting and fun because it always changes.)

You might also want to check out Silver Oak, Sterling, and Opus.

Give us a little more information about what you're looking for and maybe we can help answer your question a little bit more.
