Strange cognitive phenomena?

I'll try to explain this as well as I can, because I'm sure most others have this too, and never really share it.

Every so often, I'll see, hear, smell, or otherwise percieve something, and immediately feel a sense of familiarity with my immediate thoughts about the sensation, when I know that I've never actually experienced it before.

For example, I might walk into a conference room for a business meeting, and suddenly feel like the room is familiar, as if I've been there before many times, when in fact I know I haven't.

This sort of thing happens about 1-2 times a month, and the feeling very quickly subsides. I'm curious about what the possible explanations are for this phenomenon.

Before you answers - I'm Christian, so I do believe in God, Satan, the Holy Spirit, etc. I don't believe in "positive/negative energy", or any other concept that has roots in Paganism or Taoist/Buddhist religeons. Henceforth, please don't answer with explanations corresponding to that stuff.

I'd love to answer your question, but you knocked all my explanations out of the ballpark.
PS: I'm a Christian,too.
Good luck

It sounds like deja vu to me. But I'm sorry to say I don't have a medical reason for it. You could check a psychology website, or if you're a college student, check with your science/psychology department.

Sounds like Deja Vu which i BELIEVE is simply encoding something in your memory before your brains processes it. So maybe you go into a conference room, encode it in your memory, then process it thinking "Oh, I remember this conference room."

I get this feeling too. The best explaination that I found was that as your memories are created and filed, sometimes it happens so quickly that a current event gets experienced as a memory at almost the same time that it's being experienced.

That Sean guy is correct. I am seconding his answer. The phenomenon you are experiencing is called de ja vu. Some believe that de ja vu, because of that strong familiar feeling, is something from your past life coming to the surface. But being a Christian, we know that is not possible. It is merely a neurological process that sporadically happens that causes this sensation.
