I told a co employee that i had a felony, his wallet came up missing they let me go, because of my background?

I orginally heard of the company through a temp agency, i ended up being hired without the agency, I walked into work friday and the owner says she wants to talk to me a minute, we go in the conference room, she asks me if i have any problems in the past, and that someones wallet is missing and because i have a felony this co-worker thinks i stole his wallet, and my employeer tells me they were going to do a background check anyway and that they would of let me go anyway.

did you not disclose the felony on your app? if it asked about one and you failed to tell them about it then you will need to look for a new job. if it didn't ask and you didn't tell then ....

can you say lawyer?

if they were going to do a background check it would have been done before hiring you. thats a lame excuse. i would ask the office staff if it is standard procedure to hire before a background check or to even do one at all. that will be your first indication if he was lying about that part.

unless it can be proven that you stole something an employer cannot accuse you of it nor fire you for it. that is the law.

ask your employer to prove the jerk didn't just lose his wallet. since he cant prove he didn't lose it he can't prove it was stolen

Just give them the wallet back.

In the USA most every business is required to be an Equal Opportunity Employer which means they cannot fire you or disqualify you from the interview process for having a criminal background. That's employment discrimination. Check your local and state employment laws. You could have cause for legal action.

Ask the employer if they really think that is being fair.
Then ask if she is willing to go to court over this.

If, on your employment application, you indicated you did not have a felony conviction and you do, that would be enough of a basis for your dismissal
