Co-worker issues?

I have a co-worker that types, scrolls her damn mouse, and sighs loudly throughout our long work days. We sit in a conference room daily for 10 hours a day. It's getting so annoying, it's hard to have a thought of my own w/o the intrusion of her poor office etiquette. What should i do?

I can't listen to music at work. and it's not that she scrolls her mouse. it's that she constantly does it and loudly...we are in a tiny conference room and there's nowhere else for me to go. the rest of us are quiter and respectful to each other.

If your relationship with her is amicable apart from the noise, you could try talking to her in a direct but respectful manner. Explain that you have difficulty maintaining focus with background noise and peripheral distractions.

If you don't think a direct approach will work out well, try sending her subtle signals - make eye contact with her every time she sighs. When she's pounding her keyboard, ask her if she's alright. If she's at all perceptive, she'll catch on, or she'll get tired of you asking her if she's alright.

Another alternative would be to relocate your desk. You're likely to be asked for a reason though, and before you tell the truth you should make sure you can trust the manager(s) you're speaking to, otherwise it could backfire.

See if you can bring a radio with headphones in. Then don't look at her. She wants attention, and you are giving it to her.

Make her day more enjoyable. Throw stuff at her.

A radio would be awesome. Then you can just totally ignore her. If that's not an option, go with "annoying guy" routine.

Make a list of the most annoying, deeply personal things you could ask her or just talk about in general. Everytime she does something that annoys you whip one of those little gems out and engage her in conversation. Like Pavlov's dog, she'll begin to associate all her sighing and what not else with attracting your attention and being drug into a conversation she doesn't want to have.

She'll stop. It will take a while, but she'll be quiet as a mouse in about a month.

Talk to your supervisor about being able to move away from her, due to her being too distracting. See if there is any way they can put up small walls to absorb the noise. If things need to be really quiet, try wearing headphones (they don't have to be on, just plug them into your computer so that she thinks they are).

I don't think the mouse scrolling and the typing are intentional. She probably doesn't even know she's doing it. Ask her once or twice if she notices your typing, because you can really hear hers. She might get the hint.

Is she not supposed to type or scroll her mouse? =)

Wear headphones. I listen to my ipod or yahoo music during work. Maybe your job will allow you to do this.

Thankfully I got promoted not too long ago and now have my own office. But previously, I was stuck sitting near my coworkers and had to deal with their annoying habits. My suggestion to you is to voice your concern! Tell them flat out that what they're doing is irritating you.

Drop a anonymous note on her car or on her desk..be nice and tell her people are starting to complain to the boss. If she values her job that might work
