Christians & Atheists - are you missing the point?

I use these two groups because they're the most common and form a sort of dialectic, here.

Christians who ask 'why do atheists come here, if they dont believe in god?' question - this is a forum to discuss religion isn't it? Would you argue that nobody could attend a conference on legislation of alcohol unless they were drunk?

The R&S room without atheists.

'There's no god. I don't believe in any, do you?'
'No there are still no gods.'
'Nope'
'No gods at all'

You can practically see the tumble weed roll across the screen. Let's not take it too serious. Let's interact and always remember that maybe we could learn something, yes?

Yes, yes, I know - I've pointed out myself several times that without religion atheists would cease to exist as a definable group. The same way people who don't believe in fairies are somewhat invisible as a category of people (and people who do stand out a mile) NEVERTHELESS, in the spirit of fairness and so on...

When tumble weeds blow through empty churches and we're free of the yoke of superstitious religion, I will grin greatly.

I think the problem is when people have a serious question about the Bible or God, and 20 people com along and simply say that there is no god. In my eyes, that's spam.

How does that make atheists miss the point?
I've never heard an atheist ask why Christians are on the religion board? It's fun to argue with christians. period. I think that is the point.

I couldn't agree more! I just wish we would always treat each other with respect and stop the name calling. You don't learn by talking to yourself..You need to talk to people from all beliefs.

OK and if just 1 single atheist turns to the truth of Christ , I will say that it has been worth every hour I have spent here doing my thing. My thing is " Come to Christ"

I'm a Christian, but please don't generalise (And I almost never say, "Praise Jesus!" - sounds like what crazy people do, Christians aren't all irrational you know).

The thing I consistently promote is that Christians can learn things from atheists, and atheists can learn things from Christians.

However, the group of Christians I know, specialise in studying other religions intensively, and yet remain Christian.

People seem to be ignorant of why people believe in what they do, and rather just pick and choose the parts they don't fully understand...when at the same time, these people can learn so much more.

Yes... And ya know, no questions would remain because all that would constantly get deleted as chatting! lol

without religion, we'd by definition BE atheists.

Without religion, there would be no need for calling oneself 'atheist', it's true. It would also mean that 3/4 of the wars (current ones included) would not be occurring now.

Religion breeds hatred and intolerance.

I think many Christians would prefer the everyone loving God thing.
