Yokohama Hotels?

I am going to attend a conference in the pacific convention plaza Yokohama, Yokohama Japan. Could someone recommend a cheap hotel/motel to me? My only requirement is that the hotel/motel in safe area with easy public transportation to the pacific convention plaza. It will be good if i could have my own room too. Thanks for the help.

I'm afraid it's been a while, so while I'm pretty sure, I'm not 100% sure. I stayed in a fairly cheap place that I think is called "New Otani Inn Yokohama". It's cheap by Yokohama standards, at about 7000 yen (US$60) per night. Decent place, average size for North American standards.

You can walk or take a taxi - the latter will cost under US$10. But Japan is generally a pretty safe place, though you may want to avoid the less-lit harbour-front further away from the malls and Chinatown area.

I also looked up www.hostelworld.com, and there is a place called "Hostel A Silk Tree". 3000 yen (US$22) but you have to share a bathroom, hostel style. And, your room will be the size of an average-sized North American bathroom. :)

This convention center is in a relatively new area
(Minato Mirai) and all the hotels nearby are expensive
(international hotel chains, like Crowne Plaza, Intercontinental).

So you should stay in a hotel which is close to a subway
station for Minato Mirai Line.
