Should I join the Air Force? Will this give me free flight traning?

I am 14 going to Grade 10. Ever since I was young I have wanted to become either a pilot or an astronaut. Then I thought to myself, why not a Space Pilot.

I know that NASA and the CGA mostly hires pilots with experience in flying jets and other crazy aircrafts.

If I were to join the Air Force, would they give me free training to become a pilot? Commercial Pilot?

I know that the chances of becoming an astronaut and going into space are very slim but there are jobs in the same field that I can do if I don't become an astronaut.

Will the training that I get in the Air Force allow me to become a commercial pilot or not? Is this free?

What about if I want to be a pilot for Virgin Galactic? Same qualifications as NASA?

I know someone in the space program right now he started as a jr rotc in high school, then rotc in a college with a flight program. Once he graduated college with a degree in flight. He was a commissioned officer and he is currently in the flight program for the airforce. its a long road to get there and alot of military commitment I think he had to agree to ten years or so. So make sure it is really what you want to do. Other than that you should make sure you keep a good academic and personal record as it is a tough program to get into because of the years of training it takes.
Good luck

Go to college first and get a degree since the Air Force would not even think about approving you to go through training. Its a very popular career and theres probably a thousand other people who have the same plans as you.
They dont put just anybody in the drivers seat of a 50 million dollar aircraft.
But yes, having flight experience would greatly improve your chances of becoming a commercial airline pilot

wow ur in the same situation as me ,
i am 14 also and i am heading off to 10th grade next year and i have always thought of goin to the air force when my parents ask me where i am i gonna work i say i am gonna go to the air force then be a pilot and buy my own fighter airplane to play with!!!
so for ur question yes i do think it will train u and that it also has some other benefits like strength college money and scholarships and many more things but most of all will teach u how to fly a plain!!
