I live in Canada...?

and I'm a full time mom who's maternity leave just ended, and wants to get back to work,and who can't afford day care. Though I am currently on a waiting list for subsidised child care, I was told it can take up to 18 months. But I really can't afford to wait that long. I've been thinking for a few months about opening up a small bakery in the commercial space available right beside my home. My question is: Does anyone have any tips on how to safely start a small business, so that if it doesn't turn in any revenue, I don't burn a massive hole in my bank?

There are women's enterprise initiatives available provincially and federally. Check with you province first to see the grants and financing help available.

As for tips on a new business, its not easy. Expect to earn very little income for the first few years as most of your money will go back into the business for capital/equipment purchases and marketing.

My wife and I just secured some daycare but I do know how tough it can be to get *good* daycare here in Toronto.

Buy yourself a pet monkey & train him to run the bakery. Problem solved !
