When is the first commercial flight into space?

They are taking reservations now, and are claiming the first flight could happen by the end of 2009... This is a revised estimate - 1 year later than the original 2008 estimate, which was published in 2004...

they are taking bookings now with virgin galactic, cost about $200,000. the first 100 to go are to be called the Founders these places are sold out, the next 1000 are the Pioneers this is expected to be in the first year. They say they will not do it until they are sure it is safe. When? to be announced

For each year that passes so does the estimate of when low cost (by comparison of what you pay as a tourist to the ISS pay) Sub Orbital flights will take place. I highly doubt (personal opinion only) that it will begin by 2009. There is still to much to do. At least 50 to 100 test flights before the first hard paying public can go. 2012 is my guess but is is just that. A guess.

I suppose you can say they already exist. People with large amounts of money have twice paid the russians large sums in return for a visit to space. Nothing more commercial than that. Of course if you mean REGULARLY SCHEDULED commercial trips into space that is anybodys guess.
