I am building a commercial restaurant and want to know how much window space I can have and follow the EICC?

I have a strange layout for my building and can only put windows on one part of my building. The contractor said my windows could only be so big due to some energy conservation guidelines called EICC. Is this true? The ones I have are very small and are not going to allow enough light into the restaurant. Is there anything I can do to get bigger windows or more windows on the same wall. My building is 2000 sf. If you know of a place I can call or look at on the web that would have some information that would also be helpful.
thank you

I found when I was upfront and honest with "the powers that be", it worked to our benefit.

For what it's worth, here are some suggestions:
1] Go to the EICC website and see specifically what your contractor is referring to.
OR ask the contractor to show you what he/she means by him/her showing you the web site's specs.

2] You paid for a building permit, didn't you?
Call the Codes Office or Licenses and Inspections.

3] Make an appointment with the building inspector. Ask him/her to come to the building to give you clarification on the code.

4a] At the time of the inspection, you'll be able to show him/her exactly what you mean AND
b] you are doing the work "to code".

5] At the next zoning board meeting/hearing, ask about a variance from the permit OR an amendment to the permit.

The very worst answer you'll get is "No". Other than in love and romance, "No" never hurt anyone, did it?

A better position is to have matters straightened out and you'll KNOW what can and cannot be done.

Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it!
