HP pavilion dv5000 "will not turn on" - suggestions?

My mother just called. Her HP pavilion dv5000 laptop will not power up. When laptop is just sitting with no commercial power, it will not do anything. When laptop is plugged into commercial power with charger, there are some blue lights under the lid (screen) that are illuminated. Tapping the space bar does not do anything. Pushing and releasing the power button does not do anything, pushing - holding for 12 seconds and releasing does not do anything, pushing and holding for 30+ seconds does not do anything. Does anybody have any further suggestions?

'skurdj' got it fixed. Battery was removed from laptop and laptop was unplugged from charger for 25 minutes. Upon replacing the battery, and plugging laptop into charger, the blue lights were no longer illuminated. Power button was normally pressed and released, and computer powered up. Thanks for all the suggestions. It saved me a 2 hour drive, and having to take it to a shop. Thanks again!

sometimes it helps to physically take the battery out for a few minutes.

Keep the charger powered on for half day till the battery gets charged fully.
Then turning it on will work.

I reckon your motherboard might be blown, so i'd take it to a computer shop. Or it could be the power supply unit

Sounds like either there is something keeping the battery from charging (defective power chord, toasted battery), or else a hard drive malfunction. This happened to my desktop computer - it wouldn't turn on at all. When I got it fixed, I was told the computer wasn't recognizing the hard drive was present, and he reprogrammed it to boot up again, which worked. I also had a problem where a memory card had come loose, but that was also on the desktop computer. If she has a warranty, she should take it in to where she got the computer and have them look at it. If not, she should look into prices to get it looked at and fixed somewhere else. It may be a bit pricey, but if she needs the laptop it is worth it. Hope that helps.
