Do you think all these new commercial space tourism companies will put smoking sections on there spacecraft?

I enjoy Cigars every now and then and it would be nice of them to have a smoking area on there spacecraft.

There is no possibility at all. None.

Oxygen uptake within the human body in space remains similar to that on Earth for short-duration flights, but on longer duration the oxygen uptake drops.

This is for people with premium level body functions.
For those taking a trip because they can afford to do so, it must be assumed the will not have the premium-level fitness, and will need more oxygen in the air they breathe. This means a higher concentration/higher per centage of oxygen must be created.

With a higher oxygen level in the ambient environment, there would be a two-fold risk.

The first would be a higher risk of fire, which is unthinkable.

The second would be a direct result of the combustion of the tobacco, which creates carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. These would unavoidably affect the total volume of air within the closed breathing environment, meaning they would effectively reduce the per centage of oxygen, which would require a higher input of oxygen to maintain the levels required. This would bring you back to item one.

The danger to the people and the vehicle would be extreme. Smoking could not be permitted.

I'm sure they will have a personal massue, manicurist, bartender and anything else you want, its about the money after all.

If it is commercial no doubt it. Perhaps there will be a smoking room. Not an easy thing to do.

I'm pretty sure open flames would ignite in the artifical atmosphere (too much oxygen), so its not so much that they wouldn't allow it for health/ comfort reasons, but the fact it could potentially kill everyone in an explosion.

No, because of the oxygen rich atmosphere inside the craft itself.

At first, safety would be such an over-riding concern that combusting anything would likely be prohibited!

But, I suppose it would eventually be feasible to have a smoking room on board a tourist space-ship! As long as the pilot is not smokin any funny stuff at the helm, I don't see that it would be a big problem! It's not like you can just step out for a smoke!

If I were ever cooped up in a ship, with nicotine addicts, I sure wouldn't want to deprive them of their fix...could get nasty up there if folks start having nic-fits!

Only on the outside lol
