How do I find out if the business name I want is okay or if someone else has rights to it? Can it be similar? |
What are the guidelines for naming your own business, and how do I know if it is going to be LLC, Inc., Co.,etc. I would be selling some various retail items, and not employing anyone other than family. I'm not sure at this point if I want to lease commercial space or try to start off just selling from home. Do I need to schedule a meeting with my attorney to find out about liability, paying taxes, etc. or with my accountant? I really just need help with the technicalities and laws, as I know very little about being a business owner. Any ideas on where to begin? I would head to a good business tax accountant (they charge less for their time than attorneys). He should be able to advise on how you should register your business (LLC, S-corp, C-corp, etc...) based on the size, type, and structure of your business. He will also be able to file all of the proper documents to the state to "establish" you business, along with your business name. At that point the state will notify you/him if the name you want to use if "ok" (being used by anyone else). |
