Time Warner DVR and a DVD recorder!?!?

I have Time Warner Cable with the DVR. I have a few shows recorded on my dvr that i don't want to erase, but they are taking up space. The DVR gives the option to COPY TO VCR, but i don't have a VCR, so i was wondering if I could use a DVD Recorder instead. Currently, I do not own a DVD Recorder, so I do not have a clue about how it works. So i have tons of questions... First, could I archive the shows from my DVR to a dvd using a dvd recorder? Second will it give some kind of copyright error? Third, can I edit the recording, like cut out the commercial or just record a part of the show, or will it just transfer the entire show as it is recorded on my dvr? Fourth, can i record several different shows on one dvd at different times or does each recording close the option to add to the dvd? Because there are certain shows that I watch every week and I would like to record several episode of the same show to the same dvd like i used to with my vcr, having each episode back to back. help!!!

I have a Tivo.. and looks like the same thing.. Think of the DVD Recorder as a regular VHS for a momeht here...

1). So, if you use Save to VCR function on your DVR, and connect the cable (video to video, audio to audio) then you can copy the program to a DVD in real time.. a 30 minutes show, will take 30 minutes to record.

2). There shouldn't be any copy right error.

3). Yes, but again.. you will have to pause the dvr at the right moment to copy it that particular portion to a dvd burner, or it will transfer the entire show.

4). A dvd recorder will let you create a menu, simlar to the movie dvd that you buy.. it will contain different charpter, or segment if you will everytime you record and stop record on the dvd burner... and, you can close the section when the dvd disc is full, so you can watch that dvd in any player.

Hope this helps. Good luck!!

OK, when I got my DVR from TW, they told me I could record to DVD or tape, whatever I had. As far as I know, the "copy to VCR" just copies directly - with commercials, etc.

In theory (if their info was correct) you could record whatever you want to DVD, and it should not give you a copyright error. You probably cannot edit the show, though, unless you record to VHS (with the tape, you can pause recording, fast-forward the show, then resume taping).

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to record multiple shows to 1 DVD, but it may depend on how much room is on the DVD & the options at the time of recording.

As far as recording at multiple times, unless they've updated DVD-R's, you can't do that - everything has to be recorded at once.
