ah ha but there's a catch in doing so you have to remove everybodies freedom to make up their own minds as a price (come on my fellow space-travellers there's no such thing as a free lunch) i have 2 criteria for this 1) you have to explain your answer as to why it would or would not be worth the cost 2) no saying "only whites can be racists" 'cause that's just a load, it's like some demented Trix commercial "i hate those blue-eyed devils" "no no no silly (race of choice), racism is for white folks" you can't class an idea by race , it just doesn't work that way.

When I first saw your question, my gut reaction was "yes!"

Then, when I read your condition of removing free will, I had second thoughts.

While I would like to not have racism in the world, what else would I like to not have in the world? And, what would be the results, intended or not, in those decisions?

Like could deciding to not have homophobia lead to no homosexuality. How boring!

The only way to end racism would be to have all intermarry, but then that's prescribed social change which usaully doesn't work and has lots of resistance.

So, in the end, I guess we have to live with what we have.

Yeah, but even if racism didn't exist anymore, society would find something else. Then people would hate brunettes because they're hair is brown. Someone would find some bogus scientific information that proves blondes are better or vice versa. Same with height, the kind of jeans you wear, the car you drive.....certain people in society will find a way to hate someone and make themselves seem superior.

You just have to change people heart's and train them from a young age that bigotry and greed has caused more problems and wars than anything else.
That way, you don't take away their freedom of choice.

ummm wow thats a hard one. i mean yea i would wipe out rasism in a heart beat, but to remove people's freedom to make up their own minds is just sick. i guess i would not do it because right now not everyone is racist and we can only hope that people will use their freedom to make up their own minds to let go of that way of thinking.

I wouldn't just because it'd be like getting rid of all the bad people so that there'd be no more robberies and murders and everything. No matter how bad they are and how much they really suck, we couldn't live without all that, people would go insane with everyone being too nice. Also it toughens people up for other people out there and shows them what to expect, you can't go through life having everything perfect and nice and all that...it's just not healthy...

Race distinction, as any groupings, is a construct. It does not really exist, it is made up. If I remember correctly, this idea of races was a construct in somebody's dissertation that served a social purpose. We all group, it keeps us strong and alive. Alone, we're a gonner. As a group we can conquer and be superior to others. Again it's a game humans play, dangereous at that, but a game all the same.

I know too many cultures of people that racism is very much alive....India: The Northern Indians joke about the Southern Indians or the Sadar's (head gear) The Arab world, the Saudis use the Egyptians as maids..or look down on those who live in the desert (making jokes of them)...The lighter people usually discriminate against the darker of any culture...even Africa...the South Africans discriminate against the other regions. The Rich against the Poor...The whole international world laugh at Americans..(I hear in conversation) about our country's divorce rate, they ask me "why are your women strippers?"

I would wipe it off the face of the earth. Removing everyone's freedom of choice. Hmmm...Well that would make everyone no more than a drone. Everyone would be one way, nothing interesting. If you put it like that, I would have to say no. Freedom of choice is such a broad area. It would take away a person's freedom of worship, family options, etc. No the price is way to high. I would NEVER say that only whites could be racist. After all, I am married to a man that only likes and respects one white person and that happens to be you. He is coming around though. *whispering now* We gotta keep working on him though.

Racism is a ugly thing, but our freedom to choose is one of the most important rights that we have.

Let's propose we blindfold everyone and we determine our interactions based upon a non-visual introduction. As you point out (I think), racism is currently not confined to a singular group.

There is not "cost" associated with removing racism. If you are implying we lose group/race allegiance, I would counter that a group of multi-races in a clique, is much stronger.

I can base my research upon my five year old son's preschool class. There are multiple races in the room, and they all interact just fine. His friends are African-American, Persian, Asian, and Caucasian. He does not distinguish. He only knows these are the people he enjoys playing with. If we leave them alone, they will continue to interact just fine. It is when we apply social pressure to remain within ones own group (race), that things go awry.
You do not lose a freedom by abandoning racism, you grant freedom to all.
I may have missed your point, and frankly, if so, I am pleased.

Everyone is welcome in my home regardless of race or creed. It is my hope that by not introducing race as a characteristic to my children, they will not judge by race.
They will seek out compatible people by the interests shared.
I hope this is not a Utopian thought.

We need to figure out that we are all members of the human race and go form there.
