How can I burn my own DVDs of assorted film clips for use in a classroom?

I have a new computer with lots of power and storage and a DVD burner. I would be importing movies from commercial DVDs or, in some cases, VHS tapes. Ideally, I'd like to be able to fade in/fade out of five to ten minutes clips and have space between each. A friend suggested Nero, another DVD Fab, but I wonder they would help with the editing. I have "Media Center" on my new eMachines computer but haven't yet learned what is there to use. I understand that I will need a video capture device if I want to draw from VHS tapes.

First you'll need 'on the fly' decryption so that any application you decide to use will be able to access the commercial DVD's.

Your friend's suggestion for Nero might work but the video editing is limited. The other suggestion of DVD Fab is really only for copying or playing DVD videos but the platinum version also includes on the fly decryption.


Personally I think Sony Vegas Movie Studio+DVD would be well suited for what you want to do.

well you have the best (ok one of the best) resources with u!! find Windows Movie maker in ur windows os itself. it is fairly easy to use and also has a lot of transition effects to boast about. Try it and see!
