Communication problems with mother?

Whenever I try to have a conversation with her she spaces out and says that she can't understand or hear me. When I get upset about it she says that I need to let up on her because she's old and senile (not the case), but this never occurs with anyone else.
We were watching a commercial the other day for a product and she said that she would never be able to learn how to use it no matter how many times she was given instructions because she just wasn't interested. I wonder if that's the way she feels about me.
I stopped trying to have any serious conversations with her but now she 'spaces out' even when we're talking about silly stuff like sitcoms. Should I just give up and distance myself even more? I see her about 2-3 times a month.

Is she spacing out about something that doesn't interest her? If not, ask her if she's interested in seeing you at all, because a conversation is two-way. You talk to her about the things that interest her, and about what interests you. If not, what's the point? Sorry to be blunt, but that's what it comes down to. Is she interested in you? (your likes, your activities, what excites you, what saddens you, your opinion...your life). Same goes for her. A conversation is about sharing opinions and such, even though you may not agree about them, at least you listen to the other person. Tell her this. Good luck!

i take it you are an adult or a child that has gone thru a divorce. YOu need to simply approch your mother and make sure that she is listening to you. and ask her why she is ignoring you in a manner that will soon become a problem.

It sounds important to you so I wouldn't give up. Ask her to make eye contact with you and tell her that it is important that she listens to you. Use "I feel statements" When you space out when I'm talking to you it makes me feel ____.
