Someone hit my car and refuses to give me the insurance info..cops won't do anything..what do i do???HELP!!! |
Someone backed into my car the other day and I didn't realize how much damage was done until I got home... I called them the next day and they told me they talked to their lawyer and was advised that it was too late I should have gotten it when it happened and they won't give it to me now. I contacted the police and they said they can't do much about it that my insurance should handle it. So I called my insurance company and they said it's not their job the police should handle it!! I'm so confused about what to do!!! Someone please help!!!! The cops also told me that they don't deal with accidents that happen on private property which I don't understand...seems like lazyness to me... There has to be some way to find out what insurance company they use. Shouldn't the cops be able to look it up in their computers some how? I'm sure they've had some kind of traffic violation where they had to show insurance. I don't know but something seems messed up here. You can't just go around hitting peoples cars and get away with it!!!!!! And does anyone know how much it costs to file a claim in small claims court if I went that route? Would I need an attorney?? Thanks so much for all your input!! get an estimate and take them to small claims court. And talk to someone higher up in the PD. File the claim for damage with your insurance company. If they want anythign else done they will have to do it. But you SHOULD have gotten a police report when ti happened, no matter how little the damage appeared at the time. The cops should do something because that is a hit and run if they refuse to give you their information. But they might be right, you are supposed to report it right away. Arm yourself with as much info as you can and call your insurance company You are probably going to need a lawyer on this one. I don't know exactly what they can do for you though. |
