My landlord enters without permission and does who knows what.? |
On several occasions, my landlord has entered my home without permission. This is always when I am away. Once, I went to the store and came back to find someone in my house. I was terrified---ready to call 911, but then my landlord peeked out. He and his wife were there, but couldn't explain why. I hadn't called with a problem. He left my toilet running for 9 hours by "overflushing" it (pushing the handle down too far; one of those little eccentricities that toilets have when they need a new kit). He didn't act concerned. He comes into my house all the time and breaks the Scotch Tape Barrier. One time, they came into my house and latched my night security latch, which meant that I couldn't even use my key to get back in! What can I do??? Does he need notice to come in? They are really upsetting me, and this has to stop! That's the same as breaking and entering. Tell him to quit or you will have him charged. It is illegal for the Landlord to enter without permission or notification except in emergency type situations His actions are illegal and should be reported. Set up a video camera and get him on film and file a complaint and prosecute his butt. Then file a civil suite and take all of his money. You need to have your lawyer send him a letter to stop that behavior. that is illegal document the date and time each time and camcord him and the evidence, even call the cops so you have a police record. and then CHANGE THE LOCKS! if he says anything then just go to court with him and tell the judge why since you have your documentation he will be in the wrong! Although it is his house, by renting it to you, he has to give you privacy. He shouldn't be in the house without your permission. For all you know, he could be taking some of your valuables. He could even sneak in your house, break something, and then blame it on you, causing you to pay for something. I'd suggest to either talk to him (ask him why he wonders in the house when your not there) or just MOVE OUT. It's kind of odd that he does that. Your landlords don't seem very reliable or trustworthy. But, I highly suggest that you move out. Good Luck! |
