I am furious with teacher- daughter wet herself?

The string teacher at my daughter's school is very nice but handled this completely wrong! My daughter who is in 7th grade wet her self because the teacher wouldn't let her go to the bath room in 10 minutes she said she could. Well my daughter's best friend told me that after she left the room the teacher anounced what happened to the class, but told them not to make fun of her. Middle school children are just horrible with cliches and popularity. Should I call the teacher?

It is not illegal in Missouri. My daughter said she didn't want to get in trouble- which makes me wonder if the teacher would punish a kid for going to the bathroom when they need it.

If she had to go that bad then she should have said something or just gone. As of the last that I knew it was illegal to refuse a restroom in school. That was in Las Vegas, I was last in school in 2002. Unless it was just there, or has changed I think thats illegal.

Call the teacher. Try to be as polite as possible. If you don't like what you hear, take it to the principal.

Personally, I don't so much have a problem with the teacher neglecting to let your daugther run out to the bathroom. To be fair, teachers have a lot going on at once and may not have meant to forget. The problem I have is with announcing it to the class! That is just wrong.

Good luck.

I am HORRIFIED that this happened to your daughter.

I would be all over the teacher and the administration. Junior high is such a cruel time for a kid. I am INCENSED.

Yeah, tell your daughter if she needs to go to just go. It's easier to deal with the "discipline" of leaving without permission, than the embarrasment of her peers.

the teacher was wrong in telling the class your daughter had wet herself. I'd be going in and telling the teacher that. At your daughters age most should be able to hold themselves but not all can for whatever reason. My daughter is 11yr old and at times does have a weak bladder and if she has to go she needs to go there and then. I've always made sure teachers are aware she may at times need to go PDQ

If she had to go THAT badly she should have gone during the class break, during lunch, before school, etc, or could have just said something and just left to the bathroom if it was that big of an emergency. If she's in 7th grade she is 12/13/14 and can hold it for 10 minutes.

I agree with some of the above, call the principal and set up an appointment to discuss the matter with him and the teacher. No child should be made to feel ashamed during school.

I would file a complaint against the teacher.
She really had no right to decide if your daughter really had to go or not.

when i was in highschool we had 3 minutes too and I never knew anyone who peed themselves over it unless she has a bladder problem in which case you should take her to the doctor and he could tell the school she needs special breaks

That is bull! Yes you need to talk to the teacher, and the principal.

call school board and give them a peace of your mind dont curse

You need to advise a meeting with the principle and the teacher to discuss this matter.

It is illegal to withhold the bathroom rights to a child with reasonable times. No matter what state, says it is legal. It can be fought and won.

There is times where children find ways to get out of class or go see a friend on the way to the restroom. I worked at a school and I was a kid once. But when you got to go, then you got to go.

The point your daughter needs to know is if she has to go, she has THE RIGHT to walk out and go if the teacher refused and the last resort before wetting (or soiling) herself.

If she was worried she would get in trouble, that is what that meeting is for to let them know withholding bathroom rights is inhuman and will not be tolerated by you, the parent.

I had children with diarrhea who have gone in their pants on the way to the restroom. I tried everything I could from others from knowing about it.

The meeting is to declare that this situation was confidential and she broke the trust in that. Teachers and schools can get sued and written up for embarrassment and social bathroom anxiety of a minor like this.

I would set up a meeting with the VP or Principal of the school. What the teacher did was unacceptable! I am a first grade teacher and I do everything I can to distract the other kids from the student with the accident, not announce it to the class in an embarrassing manner.

Announcing what had happened to the class was wrong, especially in a middle school where your daughter is old enough to conceal the accident with a sweater. It is a different story if everyone saw her stand up and do it in the front of the class and try to troubleshoot the situation and discuss not making fun of her, that sometimes it happens, That the teacher did not realize it was an emergency.

Maybe you should be more frustrated with your daughter. There's a reason more and more schools are putting limits on when teenagers can go to the bathroom. That is why they give them about 10 minutes to go from class to class. She had her time to go use the bathroom and I can gurantee you this she was probably socializing with her friends rather then acknowledge her biological need of using the bathroom. She's also in 7th grade she should know better then to keep socializing.

The teacher told her 10 minutes and she can go. She is old enough to be able to hold her bladder for that long. There's not much the teacher is going to give to you except her version of the events and what the schools guidelines are for using the restroom. Although, if your daughter really needed to go she should have just left and gone to the bathroom anyways. Out of all this maybe you should teach your daughter about being responsible about making sure that she uses the bathroom when she needs to not ignore it.

THROW A FIT! My mother does it all the time with my school. If you throw a fit and make the staff think you're crazy you won't have any more problems. Trust me on this one.
