Can my uncle forceably "dump" my sick aunt on my mom to care for?

My Aunt is very ill and will likely be discharged from a nursing facility within one month.

My mom is the only care giving person among my aunt's relatives (she has a husband and children). When my aunt is released my mom is telling them she can't handle caring for my aunt anymore.

It's entirely conceivable that one of them will just drop my aunt off at my mom's despite her request. What can I do if they do that to my mom? Should we call the police? sheriff? what? I know it's awful to say, but my aunt's family really needs to take over care and my mom isn't well enough anymore to care for someone. It's just like my aunt's family to drop her off on my mother.

Also, my uncle's priority is work, and the kid's are more interested in their own lives. It's not that they are unable, but unwilling.

You need to call the Social worker at the place where she is being released from, then call the local police, NOT the emergency number (911), ask them for DCF department of children and family protection, and let them know

You will have to check your local, state and federal laws regarding this. It varies from state to state. If he "dumps" her off at your doorstep perhaps it is best for her and he can't manage. She is your Aunt. In time of need families need to stick together.

No. He is required to support her. Notify soc. services in your area for information. There are facilities that will accept her if they receive her soc. sec. payments.

Your mom needs to speak to the nursing facility directly, they may have a social worker to help.

call for help, tell them that your aunt's husband is not taking care of her and pushing her to your mom to care of.
