Focus vs toyota?

please dont give me"that little thing called legendary toyota relability" crap cause toyota is going down while ford improves

focus is consumerreports fav but corolla is popular

im asking somone who has test drived one

reviews for corrola ive seen says the handling sucks

please help

i mean focus vs corolla

Sorry, but Consumer Reports does not say that the Focus is their favorite in this class. Nor does it say that the handling on the Corolla sucks.
In fact, it says quite the opposite. I quote "Handling is sound and secure."

Toyota quality isn't going down, but you are correct that Ford, and other manufacturers are catching up.

This generation Focus is much better than the previous generation and I definitely think anyone shopping in this class should consider one.

The Toyota will hold its value better, but that doesn't matter as much if you are going to keep it for more than 5 years.

Top rated cars in this class, per Consumer Reports -
1) Hyundai Elantra SE (82 out of 100)
2) Honda Civic EX (78 out of 100)
3) Mazda 3i (72 out of 100).

The Focus scored a 65 and the Corolla scored a 71.

EDIT - Bobby, when the 2008 buying guide came out (March), the newly designed focus had not been tested and was not rated.
Online and in the July, 2008 Consumer Reports magazine, the Focus is recommended, but it middle of the road in overall testing in this segment.
It is the best American nameplate car in this segment, so if you have to buy American, it should be at the top of your list.

Keep in mind that I'm a ford lover, so this may be biased.

It doesn't matter if you're buying new, because studies show that Toyota and Ford and almost completely on par with eachother now.

I recently got a chance to drive in a spanking new corolla that a friend of mine bought. It isn't bad, not great, it feels quite cheap inside. One thing I noticed was that he bought it in Dec of 2007, and now in June, the logo on the steering wheel is turning yellowish, which I would never stand for that in a new car.

The Focus is nice too, I wouldn't say the inside is any better than the Corolla cheapness wise (though I prefer the looks).
The focus felt a little more preppy too.

Don't take my word for it, or any of the other people in here that will blatantly say Toyota, because that's all you've set yourself up for here.

I'd say what it comes down to is price and what you like, reliablity shouldn't be a selling point as of know; just pick what you like.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: I'd also like for the people saying toyota is better to read the links I've provided in the source list. YOU'RE ALL WRONG.

I purchased a Focus after test driving several automobiles in this class. I researched each vehicle prior to going out to test drive so i could look for those things that other buyers and consumer writers had mentioned. After many hours of research and weeks of test driving and pro/con'ing each vehicle I did decide on the Focus for the following reason:
Holds value
Tires for life, I never have to replace them.
I do not have to maintenance anything for 75,000 miles. Everything is covered, after that I am covered on the major stuff until 160,000 miles.
Cost
Interest rates
Gas mileage
Comfort of the drive

your right, ford may be getting better, but still has along way to go to catch up to toyota........ and for retaining value and resale, the toyota wins hands down...basically it's what is perceived by the majority of consumers and they usually vote for toyota..... I tried out a used focus a month ago and really wasen't too impressed.....

i have worked for both manafacturers and toyota is better by far than ford, i drive a 2008 corolla sedan and it goes and handles like a beaut. toyotas really do have great reliability, it's not a fallacy. take it from someone who works for toyota. me.

Toyota is "going down" but they are still higher than Ford. Anyways I'd say neither. The Focus looks like *** and the Corolla is boring. Get a Civic or a Mazda 3.

korean made Hyundai

who says toyota is going down, well it doesnt matter cause its still better

You're right. Toyota has declined overall because of four redesigned models. Now instead of ranking at 80 plus points, they rank in the upper 70s. With the decline they are still in the top three most reliable. Ford has improved alot but they just moved up from the low 40's on the reliability points scale to the mid 50s. Toyota's still over 20 points higher. I have to admit that the Focus isn't the piece of crap it used to be. The new one is much more refined and it actually handles pretty decent- better than the Corolla. Build quality and engine smoothness isn't up to the level of the Corolla but still but it is more fun to drive.
Corollas are popular because they have a well-earned reputation of being super reliable. You never hear of Corollas having issues like some other Toyotas because they generally don't have any. There's a reason there's been more Corollas sold than any other vehicle in the history of the automobile. I've owned two and I can tell that my newer "Made in America" Corolla was not as solidly built as my old "Made in Japan" Corolla. They were both trouble-free nonetheless.
Don't listen to Justin telling you not to put so much importance on reliability either. You're already ahead of the game by putting reliability in the forefront. I put what I liked before I bought a 1992 Jeep Wrangler Sport that I bought brand new. It's what I had always wanted. I had so many problems with it that I sold it at 54,000 miles, 3 years later. It wasn't considered a lemon because anything that went wrong with it had nothing to do with other things that went bad. Just imagine what it was like for me to make my car payments while my truck was in the shop. Yeah, it was under a good warranty, but what's the point if if you're always getting your vehicle repaired.
Anyway, they both are decent cars. Test drive both and weigh your options. You can't ever go wrong with any Corolla, but the new Focus seems to be pretty reliable too- and more entertaining to drive on top of that. In the end, the choice is yours.

By the way, you should get around 40 mpg on the highway with a Corolla. I did it on my last one (a 1999 LE automatic on a 420 mile trip from Orange, California to Phoenix AZ) and my mother averages 42 mpg in her 2005 Corolla CE with automatic transmission. The Focus will be a little less, but it might be worth it to get a little less mpg if you like the car more.

Has anyone noticed that a Toyota hater has rated everyone that said good things about the Corolla with a thumbs down? The truth hurts some people. Remember this: "Blind allegiance is the highest form of stupidity."

I have a Mazda 3S. I actually think its a really good car. I have had it for about 39 months now, and it just about over with my lease. I am not planning on buying another one, b/c well, it wasn't all that. I didn't have to maintain it too much. The breaks went after 2 1/2 years and the tires went in about 15,000 miles. My friend warned me about that though. Tires are expensive, they aren't cheap. However, I did get good gas mileage though. It did have some bad points though. Every time it rained and when I went to hit on the breaks (believe me I'm not a fast driver or a quick on the breaks kind of person), but it felt as if the breaks were scrapping on the ground when I would hit them in the rain. I felt as if I was in a Flinstone vehicle! lol Also, if you have a lot of snow or have to drive long distances in the snow, I would go for the Mazda 3 S touring or the grand touring b/c both of them have the traction control, mine didn't and it does make a HUGE difference. Also, the insurance is VERY high on the Mazda b/c its plastic and very easy to dent. I am sure if you start off with the I series it wont be so expensive, but as you gradually go up to the S Grand Touring, the price of the insurance goes up, way up. That is one of the main reasons, besides the rain/snow issue why I am not getting another one.
As for the Honda's I hear are relatively inexpensive with insurance, but are the highest rating of car thefts. I have 3 friends that have Honda Accords and 2 out of the 3 within a month one had her car stolen and the other woke up to all four tires on cinder blocks! Imagine all the other ppl in this world that have Honda's I only know 3!!!
Well, good luck on what ever you decide. I myself is actually going for the 2009 Toyota Corolla XRS. I have not only heard the best from many, many, many people, but also insurance agencies as well. Ford's are a piece of crap! You'll get the most out of your money with a Toyota.
Wish you the best of luck! I hope I helped.
