Euro Lock Problems, please can someone help? |
On my back door I had a euro lock which seized up and would not open, my dad came round and managed to remove the lock, and we tried with a screw driver to move the mechanism which holds it but it wouldnt budge still. We have some spare euro locks, so this morning I sawed through the screw at the bottom, put in new lock and its still not bloody working! Also would like to point out that its one of those doors where you have to push up the handle to lock it, dont know it this is relevant, but we have taken off this part. Any help would be greatly appreciated seeing as we have spent hours playing around with it! Would like to sort it myself and not admit defeat by calling a locksmith. Thanks in advance. Thanks for your answer, but the door is locked shut so I cant see the frame. First thing is that now you have sawn through the retaining screw you have nothing to hold the euro barrel in position, that means when you try to turn the key the barrel will move in and out. Second is if you have a lever/lever lock you need to push the handle up first to engage the lock fully. If the door is in the locked position take the barrel out again push the handle down and try lifting the door up a bit, this should disengage the top and bottom bolts. One you have the door open put the barrel back and the retaining screw, lift the handle when the door is open to see if the lock is working. If it works OK, you might just need to raise the door on its hinges for it to locate in the keeps properly. To adjust the door, look at your hinges and either on the bottom or the side you should have a stud that you can adjust with an allan key or hex key. all that a euro type lock does is rotate a m middle section of its body ..so that the bottom bit is 180 degrees to its original position ..this stops the mechanism from operating ..that's all they do ..but it is important the the handle is in its highest position to lock ..and it helps if the handle is lifted to unlock it ...however i have never seen a euro lock where it is not held in position by a screw in the side of door .this is not a self tapping screw I had a similar problem, usually those type of locks are linked to locking pins in the door which engauge in the frame. if you look at the frame you should be able to see metal brackets that these pins locate in. If the brackets have moved or are loose it will stop you from being able to turn the key. Check them out first. Hope this helps |
